Come to this Thursday's debate

Doors open at half past seven, motion announced on the night. New members welcome — no experience needed, just turn up and listen or take the floor.

How a debate night runs

British Parliamentary, four teams, eight speakers and fifteen minutes to prepare — here's the shape of a typical Thursday.

1

Motion released

The week's motion is announced and the room splits into Government and Opposition benches.

2

Fifteen minutes prep

Teams scatter to corners to build their case, sharpen lines and assign roles.

3

The floor debate

Eight speakers deliver seven-minute speeches, taking points of information from across the aisle.

4

Adjudication

Judges deliberate, rank the teams and hand back constructive feedback to every speaker.

5

To the pub

The argument carries on over a pint — where most of the real learning happens.
